Goodbye...

Early this morning my friend has left to Australia. I've been sad about it for a couple of weeks now, but it was not that sad to watch her go. I guess mostly because she was extremely happy about this. I'm sure that she'll have exquisite time there:)

I'll miss you, but I'll be watching you from the other part of the world;) Have a divine weekend for the start;)

DONE!!!

Ladies and gentlemen,

I HAVE VISA TO GHANA!!!! I'm not holding it in my hands yet, but in 5 hours I will:) Finally I can buy my tickets London - Accra - London. So the official departure side will be settled.

Yesterday I bought medicine for 400 litas (that's like 120 euros). And that's not all yet. I still didn't get some tablets. I don't even remember what they are from:) But I'm sure I might need them...

Today is an important day.

Congratulations to me:p

I read the comments to the postings. It's really cool. Thank you all for letting me know that you read this;) My friend asked me to write new things. The first idea that came into my mind was "I don't have what to write for now". And then I remembered:p

CONGRATULATIONS TO ME - THE NEWLY GRADUATED MASTER OF ARTS IN BANKING:D

Yup, it happened yesterday - I defended my thesis on "Loan portfolio credit risk assessment and management". Got an 8 (in Lithuania the highest you can get is 10, but nobody gets 10 for master thesis - only the geniouses;)). Still I can't believe or rather feel that it's over. I've been studying for 18 years. Cannot really imagine how you can live without it. How you can sit calmly near TV after your work without your conscience saying "you should study... you should be writting some paper... you should start doing those homework things...":) How can you have only work in your life? retorical question:) I guess I'll just have to experience it...

On the other hand - there's also AIESEC. "There is no life after AIESEC":) That's what I'm used to say... Of course I don't fully mean it. But I'm sure my life will be VERY empty after it's over as well.

Yet, I will be able to come back to these questions only after a year... Only after my Ghana:)

Lithuania as Africa?

I think I finally found a way to upload images to my blog;) (no I'm not blond, the "upload picture" icon doesn't work in my blogspace...)

There is one cool think that I found: Map of Lithuania - which one is the real one?;)

I guess I'll be staying in Zemaitija for the next year - so not that far;)

For foreigners - in real Lithuania Zemaitija is the northern part of Lithuania, Vilnius is in Aukstaitija:)

My new home

Sabina (current MCP of AIESEC Ghana) sent me some pictures with my future home:) It's so exciting... Well yeah, it's a bit different than Lithunia, but I'm sure it will turn to my real home pretty soon. I cannot yet imagine normally my Ghana experience, it's something unspeakable... Starting to feel butterflies in my stomach:D

Unfortunatelly I cannot upload my pictures:( don't understand what's wrong... But you can check it out at www.imagestation.com Username: burundas; password: burundas

Some of the "rules" I live by:

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

By Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).

Let's talk about responsibility

I know that in my country CSR - corporate social responsibility is becoming a fashion to talk about, but not a fashion to actually do something. Now, I don't mean that nobody is doing anything, but I'm talking more about the trend.

Today we had a conference on this topic and there were some remarkable speeches made. The thing that got me thinking most was that we are NOT SURE IF CSR ACTUALLY WORKS, we just hope it does... That was a stricking idea for me as I somehow assumed that CSR is the best and guaranteed way to success. It turns out it isn't...

But then I still believe that these actions, ideals and ideas have to come from somebody's inner feeling. And what I am afraid of is that people are becoming more and more irresponsible. Egzample, one person said that in AIESEC when you become a team leader you grow up as fast as you would if you or your girlfriend had a baby. And the reason behind that being that you become responsible for another person, in AIESEC's terms - for a team of newies, so even more than one person. I really like this comparison, but what worries me that I don't see this tendency in Lithuania. Of course, there are some great team leaders, but most people just go with flow and (sorry it sounds hard) do not succeed and do not grow up. Now I start to believe that the reason for that is - LACK OF RESPONSIBILITY.

These thoughts make me uneasy. We MUST be more responsible with our actions, words and PROMISES.

Small things to make me happy

Today is one of those days that small things make me really happy:)

In the morning I had to take one document downtown for my work, so I decided to leave my car at home and go by public transport. This doesn't happen often to me:) But I like it so much. You just stand or sit and watch the cars and buildings go by, but you don't have to worry about the traffic... Had to walk a bit from the stop to the place. But that also was so pleasant - I noticed one gorgeous house we have in downtown, bought vanilla milkshake from McDonalds, nice weather... So relaxing:) Of course it took me 3 times longer than it would with the car, but sometimes it's good to spend even working time without worries:)

The other thing that made me smile was when I opened my blog and saw that I have already 6 countries in my counter:D though I put it up only yesterday afternoon...

And the third thing was seeing my friend's comment:) I'm quite amazed as to how people keep the connection without constant communication or parties or something similar. It just means deeper connection. I'm happy and greatful for that...

A morning visit

At 8 (which is quite early for me) I was already waiting near the door of a doctor - infectionist. Had to wait a bit, of course, so the nurse gave me a small newspaper to read. It was about the diseases that you might get while traveling. I wasn't excited to read about all those pains, fevers and stomach ackes that are waiting for me in Ghana:s

But when I went in to see the doctor, she was very nice and with a smile on her face described the symptoms of malaria, yellow fever, some bugs that can hurt me etc. Did you know that there are four variations of malaria: from type 1 (not harmful, just a bit of headackes and stuff) till type 4 (the probability of dieing is quite high...)? And guess which type of malaria do mosquitos in Ghana usually transmit? Type 4 of course! Wasn't glad to hear that.

Actually it's a bit scary. I might be preparing not only for a life changing experience for my soul, but a life changing experience for my body too. Let's just hope it's not gonna be that dramatic...
